CLEVELAND– The Cleveland Guardians made a shock lineup action with starter Cal Quantrill on Tuesday, assigning the right-hander for task.
Quantrill had a rough 2023 period, going 4-7 with a 5.24 age and making two trips to the hurt list with shoulder concerns. He finished perfectly, going 2-1 with a 2.76 EA in his last 6 starts.
The 28-year-old Quantrill was a large part of the Guardians winning the AL Central in 2022 when he went 15-5 and made 32 beginnings. He’s been with Cleveland because coming over in a 2020 trade from San Diego.
Cleveland has seven days to trade or release Quantrill– or wish he can make it through waivers. He’s eligible for adjudication and is under group contractual control until 2026. Quantrill was predicted to make concerning $6.6 million in adjudication following season.
